Nicole Richie has transformed from being Paris Hilton’s sidekick into a bonafide style icon in her own right in recent times (a far cry from The Simple Life days!). With her edgy jewellery brand, House of Harlow 1960 and her new show, Candidly Nicole where she reveals her brilliant, super dry sense of humour, she just kicks ass…with a lot of sass, Nicole we love you!
And at 5’1″, she easily works a wide spectrum of looks from quirky cool to power tailoring to grungy off-duty. A fashion chameleon who always changes up her style as well as her fabulous hair colour, she knows her proportions and what suits her frame. There’s a lot us petite women could learn from her!
We have broken down four very different looks from Nicole and we’ve selected petite-friendly pieces for you guys.
1. Nicole Richie + Floral Dress & Chunky Knit
In collaboration with Piperlime (spin-off from GAP), Nicole has chosen a floral shift dress and increased its style points by teaming it up with a chunky knit cream jumper. Finished with bare legs and booties, this makes for a very cute and classy autumn outfit.

Petite style tip: When wearing a jumper over a dress, ensure that you have at least 50% bottom half of the dress on show – which should be above the knee. Otherwise, the jumper length will shorten your lower half and elongate your torso too much.
2. Nicole + Lace Crop & High-waisted Trousers
Despite the glimpse of midriff and sheer top, this outfit could have been a little trashy but Nicole with her neatly coiffed hair and minimal jewellery makes this outfit sophisticated sexy with a cheeky reveal through the mint lace top. Proportions are in perfect order with the high waist and long line silhouette of her wide leg Alberta Ferretti pants.

Petite style tip: High-waisted trousers works wonders for petite frames. It helps if you add elegant heels to an outfit like this to emphasise a long silhouette.
3. Nicole + Off-duty Tee & Shorts
‘Just thrown on’…but thrown together so well! The Who t-shirt is a favourite of Nicole’s and clearly this is an outfit that she feels totally comfortable in. The colour palette is mainly black which brings it all together to make this ensemble look very cool. Yep, black = instant cool factor.

Petite style tip: High-waisted shorts will give the illusion of longer legs. Also, wearing a traditional shaped t-shirt with shorts can give off that ‘little kid’ look when you’re petite in stature so you may wish to avoid those. Instead, try loose-fit t-shirts, v-neck or sleeveless tees for a more mature, edgier look.
4. Nicole + Silky Dress & Jumper Combo
We love this one – it’s all black but it’s all interesting. Nicole has chosen to mix a silken skirt and a more tactile wool jumper which allows this outfit to move between smart and casual territories. Add some heels and you’d be ready for that lunch meeting.
